Jakarta Aspirapos.com – Police in several countries use the Cellebrite Universal Forensic Extraction Device Touch technology commonly called Cellebrite UFED Touch to check data on the cellphones of suspected criminals, Friday 30/07/2021.

The technology produced by the Israeli company, Cellebrite, offers advanced technology for examining cellphone data belonging to suspects involved in cases.

Co-Chief Executive of Cellebrite, Yossi Carmil said, Cellebrite UFED Touch can retrieve hidden data on almost any mobile device.

“Ten years ago someone had to sit down and physically skin a cell phone. If the message has been deleted, the meal will be gone forever. But just like on a computer, even if you delete something, it’s actually still on the smartphone. Our system can pick it up. This is more difficult to do than with a computer because there are so many systems and devices,” said Carmil, quoted by TEMPO from Jewishbusinessnews, recently.

Currently, there are more than 20,000 units of Cellebrite UFED Touch in use by police and security agencies in 60 countries. Cellebrite sales have increased dramatically since smartphones are widely used as a source of evidence for criminal investigations.

The mobile devices of suspects and victims alike have plenty of evidence to bring a criminal to justice.

For example, if someone is at the scene of a crime and doesn’t know it. Maybe he had taken pictures of the area with the phone which was not worth keeping so it was deleted. This technology can recover deleted pictures.

In Indonesia, the Cellebrite UFED Touch is used by the Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) of the Indonesian Police Headquarters Surabaya Branch. This tool was used in the case of violating the ITE Law on an artist.

In addition, Cellebrite UFED Touch is an advanced mobile solution that can extract, translate and analyze actionable data from smartphones, handheld tablets and portable GPS devices for use in law enforcement. Cellebrite also supports extraction and analysis of Chinese-made phones.

Cellebrite has contributed to various controversial cases, because this technology can be used with or without individual consent. In 2011, the Michigan branch of the American Civil Liberties Union questioned whether Michigan State Police forces used Cellebrite UFED Touch to illegally spy on citizens’ cell phones.

Cellebrite was founded in 1999 by Carmil and Ron Serber. Cellebrite is a privately held company, a subsidiary of Sun Corporation, headquartered in Petah Tikva, Israel.(*)
